Mariken Kramer

Mariken Kramer lives and works in Oslo. Her work is to a large extent
based on her observation of people interacting in the world around her.
She is interested in the individual in conjunction with others. By staging
certain situations she presents us with the vulnerability of the
individual within the social group as well as the innate vulnerability in
interpersonal relations.
The use of staging is prevalent in all Kramer’s work, whether it is by
filming people interacting in a given setting or by setting up inanimate
figures in a certain environment. Her videos have a nonlinear structure,
where the focus is on communicating a certain sentiment rather than a
logical story. Kramer exposes the individual, not only by revealing the
psychology that constitutes her, but also by conveying the rules and
politics of social interacting that she acts within.
Depending on the situation, her works are shown either individually, or as
elements in installations combining video with photography and sculpture.

Mariken Kramer is also a member of the artist group The G.U.N. Ladies ,
who have worked on a number of joint projects since 2001, the latest of
which has been the establishment of The White Tube, a new space for
contemporary art, at Tøyen Subway Station in Oslo in October 2006.
